A consortium of experts, including the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, conducted geothermal energy testing at a field laboratory near the Newberry Volcano south of Bend. Early U.S. Department of Energy funding moved the project forward, which tested an enhanced geothermal system at the geothermally hot location.
